This Privacy Policy explains how BChat ("BChat", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the BChat mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service") — a chat and listings platform for real estate brokers. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
We only collect information that is needed to run the Service. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
Account information you provide
- Registration — your name (display name), email address, and a password. Passwords are hashed on our server and are never stored in plain text.
- Profile — an optional profile photo (avatar) and an optional short bio. Your display name and avatar are visible to other brokers on your listings and in chats.
Property listings you create
- Listing details you enter: title, address/location, monthly price, category, description, room and size details, amenities, and publication status.
- Up to 10 listing photos that you select from your device and upload to our server.
Chat content
- Messages — the text of messages you send, the threads/groups you belong to, and message read status are stored on our server.
- Presence & typing — online/offline status, last-seen time, and typing indicators are processed in real time so other participants can see them. Presence is held in memory and is not stored long-term.
- Optional location sharing — if you tap "share location" in a chat, the app reads your device's GPS coordinates and includes them (with a place-name label) in that message. Location is captured only when you choose to share it; the app does not track your location in the background.
Information stored on your device
To keep you signed in and the app responsive, we store the following locally on your device (not transmitted to third parties): your authentication token and account details, optional saved login credentials, favorite listings, cached listings, draft listing forms, and your in-app preferences.
Technical information
When the app communicates with our server it transmits standard request data such as your IP address and the app version. We use this to operate and secure the Service.
2. Device Permissions
- Photos / media library — to let you choose images for your profile and property listings. We access only the photos you select.
- Location — used only when you choose to share your location in a chat. We request location "while in use" and never collect it in the background.
The app does not request access to your camera, contacts, calendar, microphone, or health data. You can change or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Create and manage your account and broker profile.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Enable messaging, group chats, presence, and optional location sharing.
- Publish and manage your property listings.
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics networks. We share information only as described below:
- With other users — your display name, avatar, published listings, and the messages you send are shared with the brokers and groups you choose to interact with.
- Reverse geocoding — when you share a location in chat, the coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn them into a readable place name. This happens only at the moment you share a location. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
- Service providers — vendors that host our servers and database, acting on our behalf and bound to protect your data.
- For legal reasons — when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BChat, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
5. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Messages and listings remain stored until you or we delete them. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
6. Data Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS and secure WebSockets), and passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and update — you can view and edit your display name and profile photo in the app.
- Account & data deletion — you may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time. See Delete Your Account for instructions, or contact us at the address below.
- Permissions — you can revoke photo or location access at any time in your device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection laws, including the right to access, correct, or restrict processing of your data.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for real estate professionals and is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure it is protected consistently with this policy.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
